IIM(I) to introduce a new course on ’CORRUPTION’
The intense public engagement in Anna Hazare’s campaign against corruption along with the media coverage has had an unintended side effect. Academic institutions across the country are seeing rising interest in the issue as a research subject.
The Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Indore has included Corruption as a new elective.
“The response from students as well as corporate executives coming for short-term courses is very enthusiastic,” said Siddhartha Rastogi, Professor of Economics at IIM Indore.
By the end of September, Prof. Rastogi said, he would modify the elective to include the “Anna Hazare Movement in the context of the Lokpal Bill”.
“This is history in the making and we need to incorporate it,” he said. “In future, this will be a great research subject.”
IIM Indore’s students have also conducted a survey across six IIMs on graft, the Lokpal Bill and the government’s response.
Of the nearly 600 respondents, 81% didn’t like the government version of the Lokpal Bill as opposed to 5% who supported it. At least 61% backed the Jan Lokpal Bill, while 17% opposed it. The others had not read the Bill.

AIEEE to post answer sheets on website.
Union Ministry of Human Resource Development has announced that students appearing for the All India Engineering Entrance Exam (AIEEE), 2011 will now be able to see their answer sheets on the website to ensure transparency in the examination system. The answer sheets will be uploaded on the website a few days after the results are declared.
It will benefit lakhs of students who appear for the exam every year, in an attempt to seek admission to prestigious engineering colleges in the country, like National Institute of Technology. Ministry of HRD has directed CBSE to make necessary arrangements for it. Students are terming it an 'eye opener' which will help them assess their knowledge of any subject in detail. "It will help us see our mistakes and improve upon them," Shreyans Jain, an AIEEE aspirant, said.
Experts feel that cumulative marks of all subjects do not tell the students anything about their shortcomings.
Thousands of students reappear in the exam every year to improve their previous score. "After assessing their mark sheets, students will be in a better position to evaluate their performance. It will help them decide if they should appear in the exam again.

VC arrives in an auto,
Takes university by surprise
Indore: Vice Chancellor of Devi Ahilya University, Dr. P. K. Mishra reached the Nalanda campus by an Auto Rickshaw. All Staff members were surprised when they heard about this. But the surprise didn’t end here. Instead of going to his cabin on arrival he visited various departments such as examination, administration, etc., to analyze the situations there.
Repeated reports of that the university’s image falling due to negligence in duty by staff members led to such an action by the VC. About 20 employees were found to be absent during the inspection. According to sources Dr. Mishra said, “All the absent employees are likely to get a show-cause notice in this context quite soon.”
The VC has had to undertake such a step due to the problem that came up last week at the Institute of Management Studies (IMS) where most students failed in their taxation exam.
